Winter walks: A step towards environmental conservation

article written by

When we think about walking in winter, we often focus on its health benefits. However, at WeWard, we emphasize that winter walking is also a powerful way to help the environment. This article explores how embracing winter walks can contribute significantly to environmental conservation.

Reducing carbon footprint with winter walks!

Choosing to walk, especially in winter, reduces reliance on cars and public transportation. This shift can significantly decrease carbon emissions, a major contributor to global warming. Every step taken instead of using a vehicle helps in reducing our collective carbon footprint.
Walking also means less energy usage compared to activities that require electricity or fuel. By opting for a walk over a gym workout, for example, you contribute to lower energy consumption.
As a reminder, at least 600,000 tonnes of CO2 have been avoided in the atmosphere since the start of our application thanks to the use of WeWard, equivalent to one year's electric heating for almost 2.5 million apartments.

The Ripple effects on urban environments

Walking contributes to reduced air and noise pollution, especially in urban areas. Fewer vehicles on the road mean cleaner air and a quieter environment, making cities more livable and sustainable.
Increased foot traffic in parks and natural areas during winter can encourage the maintenance and preservation of these spaces, highlighting their importance to city planners and the community.

Walking in winter: A sustainable lifestyle choice

Embracing winter walking can inspire other sustainable lifestyle choices. It often leads to heightened environmental awareness and a greater inclination towards eco-friendly practices.Winter walkers can form a community that supports environmental initiatives. WeWard's simultaneous walks and other events can become platforms for advocating environmental consciousness.

Embracing winter, embracing the planet

Walking in winter is more than just a healthy habit; it's a step towards environmental stewardship. By choosing to walk, especially in colder months, we make a statement about our commitment to the planet. WeWard encourages you to join this movement, where each step in the winter chill contributes to a healthier, greener world. For instance, in November 2021, we conducted a simultaneous walk in 14 cities in France so that our users could meet and exchange on their walking practices.

At WeWard, our mission extends beyond promoting physical activity; we aim to foster a deeper connection between our users and the environment. Through walking, we not only improve our health but also take care of the world around us, one step at a time.
