In light of the devastating dual earthquakes in Syria and Turkey on February 6th, WeWard promptly collaborated with ACTED (Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development) to support the impacted Syrian and Turkish communities. The result? 500 essential food baskets reaching 2,500 residents.
Martina Dupakova, ACTED’s Head of International Project Development, expressed her gratitude to WeWard, noting the immense value of the support.
“Each food kit was packed with vital items, from rice and pasta to oil and sugar. WeWard’s swift action and the generosity of its community ensured we could offer a timely and effective emergency response,” she remarked.
Established in 1993, ACTED stands proud as the second-largest French NGO, as recorded by the Humanitarian Portal. Their expertise in emergency aid is unparalleled, with 20 million beneficiaries across 43 countries in 2022 alone. The scope of their work is broad, addressing areas like food security, water management, healthcare, and refugee assistance.
The magnitudes of 7.8 and 7.5 tremors of February 6th plunged countless lives into darkness. The grim toll stands at over 50,000 lives lost, with Turkey bearing the brunt of 44,374 and Syria with 5,951 fatalities. Beyond this, economic downturns with 658,000 job losses in Turkey and 170,000 in Syria, as well as infrastructure damages have amplified the suffering.
The World Health Organization reports that the Turkish-Syrian calamity has affected almost 26 million people, with 850,000 being children. Having worked in these regions for ten years, ACTED’s teams are on the frontline, offering unwavering support.
